How many sessions do I need?
Counselling can be long or short term; it can be just a few weeks or open-ended.
Each individual session lasts for fifty minutes.
How do I know if it is for me?
I offer a complimentary thirty minute session so you can get an idea of what is involved. I am happy to answer any questions you may have and you are under no obligation to commit to any further sessions.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
I understand how important it is for you to be able to speak freely about your thoughts and feelings. Client identity and everything that is spoken about during sessions is completely confidential.
I have regular supervision to support me in my work and may therefore discuss the issues you bring to counselling but never disclose your identity. This is to ensure that my work with you is ethical and effective. Anything mentioned at supervision is also totally confidential.
How often do I come to counselling?
A regular weekly session is the best way of sustaining and building on the work we are doing.
What if I want to finish my therapy?
We will have a review every six weeks to ensure that we are concentrating on the issues that matter to you and you are free to end your therapy when you are ready. After six sessions I ask that you give me two clear weeks notice in order for us to bring our work to a satisfactory conclusion.
Does coming for counselling mean I'm incapable of sorting out my own problems?
Everybody needs help sometimes and taking steps to find that help is a positive sign that you want to deal with your difficulties. Having a reliable space every week in which to work on your problems can be a great relief and allow you to cope better in the rest of your life. It can provide the room needed to get to grips with whatever is troubling you.
